I am on a journey…like everyone, I suppose. After 20 years of working as a designer, architect, and master planner, I realized I need a chance to pause so that I could figure out “what’s next”. So, the journey has, in fact, become a trip – a sabbatical – to Europe. The trip is planned, but the destination of the journey is still unknown. But I do know that I want to help small towns revitalize their public places and support their communities.
That’s where the blog comes in. Place Observations will be where I catalog my experiences in place and the characteristics of great places on my trip. And a place where you can help me by commenting about your own experiences. I believe we can build our communities by building better places. It’s all tied together – great place can bring a community together…people bring life to a place…lively places enrich a community. But where do you start? What needs to be present? I hope to start finding out together with you in this blog by:
Sharing my experiences and inspiration
Creating a catalog of place…so that patterns for great place can emerge
Inspiring all of us to make our cities, towns, and places better
Hope you join me!
